Our Origin
The World Buddha Foundation was formed and founded on 22nd May 1976 at Bodh Gaya. Bihar in the presence and blessings of the Venerable monks of the Buddhist Monasteries of Burma, Srilanka, Thailand, Japan, Tibet, Bhutan, Bangladesh, China, Srilanka, Nepal , Tai Bodhikham (Chittagaon), International Mediation Centre, Chakama Buddhist Monastery(Chittagaon) and Bodh Gaya Maha-Vihar Main Temple of Lord Buddha. It was resolued in the meeting that the said Trust be named as World Buddha Foundation having its head quarters at Bodh Gaya (Bihar) and Ranchi (H.O)
Our Purpose & Commitments
Humanitarian, Educational & Social Support
It shall be purely charitable, philanthropic, academic,
cultural and religious organization of the people of
Buddhist faith to serve, volunteer and help people in
distress, victims of natural calamities physically &
mentally handicapped; socially, educationally and
economically backward, sick & needy etc. without making any
reservation/demarcation of any nature.
It will establish, undertake, maintain, open & run centers
to develop awareness in the members and the people towards
The values and feelings of our people living in any part of
the world. It will also work for the welfare & upliftment of
the members and the people of Buddhist faith.
It will build, establish, undertake, maintain, open & run
educational institutions, technical institutions, hospitals,
adult education centres, dispensaries, retiring centres,
prayer halls, temples and homes for homeless, socially
dropped-out, deprived & unwanted children; handicapped, aged
bhikshus and bhikhunies.
Empowerment Through Work & Training
It will build, establish, undertake, maintain and run
industrial and manufacturing units where sufferers,
handicapped, deserted, socially dropped-out, economically
backward, unwanted & orphan children and aged persons can
work with dignity without being a burden on others. These
units will not operate with a profit motive.
It will do and take up such work, programmes, meetings,
seminars and conferences by which peace and awareness in the
world may be promoted.
It will organize and run programmes that inculcate
restraint, adjustment, peaceful co-existence, tolerance,
non-violence and brotherhood among members and the people of
the world.
Teachings, Resources & Financial Management
It will train & prepare devotees and volunteers so they may
spread the teachings and philosophy of Lord Buddha across
the world.
It will seek & accept donations, grants, offerings, honorary
services, subscriptions and contributions; it may obtain
loans from financial institutions, banks, and individuals
for the objects of the Foundation.
It will invest, own, possess, dispose of, transfer, enter
agreements, and manage funds and assets of the Foundation as
deemed proper by the Board of Trustees.
Governance, Administration & Legal Framework
It will undertake and organize other programmes
supplementary to the aims of the Foundation or as decided by
the Board of Trustees.
It will constitute, observe and follow its own constitution
for managing policies, programmes and administration for
smooth functioning of all establishments.
Where the constitution and bye-laws fall short, the Indian
Trusts Act 1882 shall be referred for legal and practical
guidance, or the opinion of the District Judge of Gaya or
Ranchi may be sought.
